Projects & Livestock
Livestock: Egg Layers
The flock has grown quite a bit over the past several months, and we're currently gathering up to 14 eggs per day! Our layer varieties include Delaware, Ameraucana, Buff Orpington, Rhode Island Red, Golden Sex Link, Austra White, Barred Rock, Gold Laced Wyandotte, Blue Langshan, & Black Australorp.
Livestock: Meat Birds
We’re currently raising our second small batch of Cornish Cross, which will be ready to process November 4th, and we will continue to raise a yearly batch for our family’s need. By raising our birds with organic methods, we see and taste a vast difference between our poultry, and the heavily commercialized meat found in stores.
Livestock: Dairy Goats
Fuller House is the herd name - raising and breeding high-quality dairy goats is the game! Over the summer, we were incredibly busy building our goat shelter, and driving all over East Texas to fetch our new Mini-Nubian family members. Rounding out our foundational herd are our 3 sires - Jasper, Ramsey & Sebastian; and 4 does - Violet, Clover, Honeysuckle, & Ivy. Our breeding program will begin in November 2018, and we look forward to all the amazing things this herd is sure to bring!
This project may come later, rather than sooner, but we certainly look forward to raising our own deli meat, plus the occasional whole turkey for those special occasions or meals. We plan to try our hand at raising Broad Breasted Whites, along with one of our Fall meat bird flocks in the future.
Project: Kitchen Garden
Our kitchen garden is officially complete! Varieties of squashes, tomatoes, peppers, melons, okra, cucumber, eggplant and herbs. Now, we water, wait, and watch for harvesting time.
